Comedy Queens

10. Latrice Royale

Any fan of Drag Race loves Latrice. Her big boisterous laugh and her charm will turn any doubter to a fan. Whenever she is on camera, a smile is permanently planted on my face. She’s doesn’t play games which I respect and she can also turn a bitch out and read you to filth if she has to.

9. Alyssa Edwards

Alyssa is one of those queens that doesn’t try to be funny.  No matter what she does I’m laughing, I’m not sure if its with her or at her yet, but I’ll let you know when I’m not rolling on the floor over her mannerisms and her one-liners.

8. Tammie Brown

This bitch is crazy and I love it. I’m not sure if she’s all there but I’m tuning in and watching. Literally everything that comes out of her mouth is pure gold. Watch the video and then hit repeat, cause I can’t make this shit up, haa.

7. Pandora Boxx

Pandora was one of the first camp queens to take part of Drag Race. Pandora is naturally funny, with her stand up, Carol Channing impressions, and parody music videos. It was no surprise that Pandora made the number 7 spot.

6. Detox

Detox, a friend of William’s, is a natural comedy queen. Her remarks can sometimes come off as harsh, but it’s all done in fun. Everyone needs to learn to not take themselves so seriously and Detox can definitely the queen to help you poke fun at yourself.

5. Manlia Luzon

Manila is one of those physical comedy queens; she is always crossing her eyes, making a funny face, or throwing her limbs all over the place. She does go that extra mile to make sure you laugh, however, sometimes it does go a little bit too far. But her wit and sharp commentary, it more than makes up for it.

4. Alaska

Coming in at the number 5 spot is Alaska, I’ve already expressed in my earlier blogs the love I have for this queen. She is a little of a mess, but one hell of a funny queen. She knows how to stand right up against the line but never cross it. A technique I need to learn pretty soon, haa.

3. Jujubee

Juju may have the one of the best one-liners ever in drag race history, “Tyra was your barbeque canceled? Because your grill is fucked up,” Haa. Juju is very catty, but never a bitch. I’m not sure how she’s mastered that technique yet, but she’s gotta let me know. You never find yourself getting mad at her, because you know she isn’t ever being spiteful or rude. Your always on her side laughing.

2. Jinkx Monsoon

Jinkx is one of the few queens that can actually act. Her performances are always spectacular and she has the best facial expressions. She acts with her whole body and puts thought into all of her work. She is always prepared and just naturally a comical queen.

1. Willam

There is no surprise that Willam is on the top of the list here, I mean did you read my other posts? I love Willam because she’s dirty, has no boundaries and is a huge camera whore. I feel that Willam is a combination of all the hot mess starlets put together, looking at you Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes. But at least you know with Willam that she does it for the shock factor and publicity, being a huge pop culture junkie/addict myself, I find that Willam is the perfect drug.

#RuPaulogize

Friday is officially my new favorite day, it use to be Thursdays because of Grey’s Anatomy, but who watches that anymore, haa, I digress. Ok, last week I have you Ru, this week its all about William…again. I can’t get enough of her; she’s funny, crude and successful. A win, win, win.
I LOVE WILLIAM BELLI!
tumblr_inline_mhe0s8tLLi1qz4rgp

So this week I bring you, Rupaulogize featuring Sharon Needles, (Drag Race’s Season 4 Winner) who is portraying RuPaul in the video. Not to overshadow William’s hysterical lyrics but Sharon’s makeup, outfit, and mannerisms are on point. I was pretty shocked that she pulled it off, I mean Ru is one of a kind and shit ain’t easy.

tumblr_mlk7wbZYK81r5pycvo4_250 tumblr_mlk7wbZYK81r5pycvo1_250

So the concept of the video is pretty funny, we all know what happened to William during season 4 of Drag Race: Disqualified, the first and still only queen to be. So when season 4 wrapped up production, an All-Stars version of the show was quickily being put together to air in the fall of 2012. According to William, that gurl don’t lie (haa), she was already selected to be on the show. But when production started, she was informed that she was no longer needed for the series.

tumblr_mlizwnYDsg1rcpscwo1_500

I believe that the whole All-Stars season was rigged for Chad Michaels to win, but that’s a whole other story. So what did William do, get bitter cutt off all afflitations with the show? Nope, she wrote a song about it, using her infamous sound bite from the season 4 reunion show: RuPaulogize. A girl gotta make some money some how, right? I have this song on repeat in the car, room, and shower. My boyfriend hates it and I don’t care, I mean, I aint gonna RuPaulogize for it, haa.

We are family here

tumblr_mm31h32pyv1qlqjbho1_500
I know I’m not the only queen out there with a blog about Rupaul’s Drag Race. There are tons out there to choose from and I just wanna take the time to thank everyone and anyone for giving my blog the time of day.

But on a serious note, I’d like to point out a quote from Rupaul that really touched me, “We as gay people, we get to choose our family. We get to choose the people that we’re around. I am your family. We are family here. I love you.”

tumblr_mmew7xJ6JQ1r3wmvqo1_500…YOU!

I know I joke a lot on this blog and don’t tend to be serious 100% of the time. But damn, Ru is right. It may be 2013, but sometimes the way some of the gay community is still being treated is disgusting. Fortunately for me, I have lived a very prosperous life, with accepting peers, teachers, and one hell of a family. Everyone has helped me grow into the strong, confident person I am today and it severely hurts me that some people aren’t given that. They aren’t given acceptance and most importantly love. I am not sure how, what, or even where I would be in life without any of that. So thank you readers, supporters, friends, family and everyone in between. Seriously, thank you.

With that being said, I feel the need to help some of my sisters out by giving them a shout out. Hopefully you’ll check out a couple of their sites and blogs and see what they’re bitching about. Haa.

The Tale of Alyssa Edwards and Coco Montrese

If you’ve been keeping up with Season Five of Rupaul’s Drag Race, then you are probably annoyed that I’m even doing a post about these two queens. But with all the camera time these two hoes got, how couldn’t I?

tumblr_mm3uqtTBLk1rosb88o1_250

tumblr_inline_mkrgw4a3Co1rafn95

From episode one these girls were at each other’s necks. Check out their reactions when they realized that they would be competing against each other. DRAMA BOMB! (Special thanks to worldofwonder.net and logotv.com for the video.)

The rivalry between the two seemed a little bit artificial and became stale very quickly. I was bored with the two before episode two even aired. But as time went on so did the feud. It seemed like the producers were scrambling for something to put on the air and unfortunately for us, this was the best they could do. Their fights were sporadic and way too intense to be believable. Also, their fights were affecting some of the other girls and their performances. Granted it is a competition and everyone should be focusing on themselves but these two were out of hand. Don’t get me wrong, I love drama and a good screaming match here and there, but this nonsense had to stop. Luckily in tonight’s episode one of the girls finally sashayed away, but was it the right one? (We’ll get into that in a bit)

For all you bad queens that have no idea what I’m talking about, one, shame on you and two, here’s a Rucap.

My Interpretation:
Alyssa and Coco are both pageant queens and competed against each other in numerous pageants. Even though they were competitors, they formed a friendship that eventually turned into a shit show. Alyssa and Coco were both in the running for 2010’s Miss Gay America. Aylssa was crowned the winner but didn’t live up to her contractual duties so the runner up, Coco, had to take over and Alyssa was stripped of her title, oh snap! Alyssa’s mad and feels betrayed, while Coco feels that the public thinks she stole the title from Alyssa. Lame right? With moments like these, I feel like some people never leave high school.

Entertainment Weekly’s

With all that said, when the bottom two was revealed in tonight’s episode, it left everyone gagging; mainly in relief that one of these bitches was finally going home and we’d finally find out who was the better queen. It was both their third time in bottom and one of them wasn’t gonna make it. Check out the fierce lip-sync for yourself:Here.

tumblr_mmicmlfd1c1qgb5p1o2_250 tumblr_mmicmlfd1c1qgb5p1o1_250

Who did you think deserved to go home?

Personally, I’m not a fan of Coco, I find her very manipulative, close-minded, and just a bitch and not in the good way. But unfortunately, Ru saw something more in Coco than Alyssa and sent Alyssa packing. It’s a sad day in the drag world, granted Alyssa wasn’t going to win, but she still was an amazing queen. She always tried her hardest and fell short a couple of times, but she never gave up. Plus she gave us some of the best sound bites from the show. I’m gonna miss that bitch.

Shhh, She’s about to sing

Another Friday, another video. It seems like forever since I posted something about Ru, the mother of drag, well in my eyes anyways. Ru has been a staple in the music industry for 20 years now, her debut CD, Super Model of the World, was released on June 8, 1993. It spawned three hit singles, “Supermodel (You Better Work),” “Back to My Roots,” and “Shade Shady (Now Prance).” Since then, Ru has released four full-length albums and is vigorously working on her sixth, which is set to be released sometime late 2013/early 2014.

tumblr_mme96v9gNB1qlvwnco1_500

With all this talk about Ru’s music I bet you’re dying to know what song I’ve chosen for today. Well the ghetto pop romp that I’ve chosen is Ru’s ‘Tranny Chaser.’ I personally love this song, then again I’m pretty sure there isn’t a song by Ru that I hate. I particularly love this song because of the message it sends out the straight guys in America:

“Just because you want me… that don’t make you gay
Every time you watch me… that don’t make you gay
Do you wanna be me… that don’t make you gay
Or do you wanna f(honk) me… that don’t make you gay”

In the video Ru is this provocative drag queen on the prowl for a man, gay, straight, she don’t care. The music video is just letting the straight guys that are attracted to Ru, that’s ok. She’s tall, dark, and beautiful, who wouldn’t be attracted to her? Give it a couple of spins and you’ll have the chorus stuck in your head. Enjoy Bitches.

Pageant & Ballroom Queens

In my last post, I explored and gave you a brief description of one of the subgroups within the drag community: camp queens. So I thought for this post, I would continue the education, hun-tee. I know that I am not an expert of the world of drag, but I’m a gay man, so close enough, right? Haa.

When you place the definition of a pageant and/or ballroom drag queen next to the camp’s definition, it seems like they come from two different worlds and the only thing keeping them in the same category are their sickening tucks. Haa. While this may be true to some degree, the art of illusion and entertainment is in full effect. While camp queens are more about entertaining the crowd with jokes and over the top performances, the pageant and ballroom girls are more refined.

Within the pageant world, the queens are trying to persuade the audience and judges that they can become a passable woman. The look is very important. There are numerous drag competitions that are held across the country. The best thing I can compare them to are the typical Miss USA or Miss Universe competitions. The women competing in Miss USA or Universe, are not simply resting on their looks, they have to portray the expected elegance of being a woman, brains and concern when it comes to worldly issues, and talent that shows of their more playful and youthful side. The same sets of standards are expected of the drag queens.

l Cancun 2010

Alyssa Edwards (right) and Coco Montrese (left), both contestants on RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 5, both won Miss Gay America 2010. (I’ll get into that hot mess of a topic in a later blog)

While it seems that the Pageant Queens and Ballroom Queens are interchangeable they differ on some degrees. The Ballroom queens are part of their own community and culture known as Ball Culture. (Yeah I know out of all the things to call it, Ball Culture had to be the one) All joking aside, the Ball Culture is one of the strongest forms of drag because of the family and unity aspect of it. The men that are involved in Ball Culture just don’t do it for fun; they do it as a living. A great film that descries the troubles and the alliances between the queens is ‘Paris is Burning’

These drag queens work together, live together, they do everything together. Most of them were kicked out of their homes for being gay, left because of abuse or a number of other miscellaneous reasons. These queens have created a safe place and a sense of community for one another because without that, they wouldn’t have anything. The world was, and some aspects, still is a cold and horrible place if you don’t fit into the social norms. That’s why they created ‘houses’ for all the displaced queens where there is a drag mother in charge taking care of all the occupants. Although their lives might have not been ideal, they don’t let that get them down, just like the pageant queens they hold competitions, base on how fierce the contestants are.

Ever heard of voguing? Well of course you have, Madonna made the underground art, which was originally crafted by drag queens, mainstream.

Camp Queens

When you hear the word camp, what are the first things that pop into your head? Long sunny days, summer romances, or being away from home, are a few things that the average kid/adult might come up with. However, when I come across the word ‘camp,’ the image of a 6-foot tall man dressed head-to-toe in women’s clothing with a pretty deep voice is the first thing I think of. I might have not gone to summer camp as a child, but I sure as hell do know what camp is. tumblr_mefbm9i3S41r10pkdo4_250

Camp is a certain style of performance that has been around for ages, from films that date way back in the early 1900s. A prime example of this over the top and flashy enterainment would be the Lady in the Tutti Frutti Hat from the film ‘The Gang’s All Here” The clip shows a musical performance with giant props and lavish costumes set to entertain the viewer in this fantasyland.

(Bear with me for a minute, cause I’m about to drop some knowledge)
The actual word camp is a French term, se camper (who knew?), which means, “to pose in an exaggerated fashion” (holla at wikipedia). In other words, drag queens that consider themselves camp are the ones that are usually are poking fun at themselves with their styling, outfits, and personalities/personas. Camp queens are usually not the ones that are trying their hardest to pass as a woman, that isn’t their goal. They want to go beyond that, they want to entertain you, make you laugh. They know that they aren’t a fishy queen or a queen wrapped up in fashion. They are performers, whether it is singing, acting, or sometimes a mixture of both or none at all. Their goal is to keep you on the edge of your seat in awe, amusement, and hilarity.

tumblr_ma66mjk6hc1qfcr2po1_500

Most of the times campy queens are misunderstood by other types of drag queens.

fuckyeahmimiimfurst.tumblr
The main conflict between the subgroups, usually between the pageant or fashion forward queens, is that they don’t ‘get’ or ‘understand’ the camp queens. The look is very important to the pageant queens, their goals are to be fishy and passable as a woman and when that is not a requirement for any other queen, honestly, they turn into a group of catty bitches. There are many different forms of drag and it is unfortunate that sometimes the different subgroups tend to put each other down. Not to get all preachy on your asses, but I think that bullying between the groups is bullshit. I’m all for the cattiness and the portrayal of bitches, but there is a difference between reading someone and tearing them down for being different. With Ru realizing this, I’m glad to see her trying to bring the two different types of drag by creating different challenges that showcases the different strengths of each type of queen. A prime example of the riff between the two types of queens can be seen in the first episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars. MiMi Imfurst and Pandora Boxx, mainly MiMi, was hounded for even being on the show be she wasn’t ‘worthy’ of being an All Star, and the other queens rallied to bring her down. Granted MiMi isn’t one of my favorite queens but the way she was treated crossed the line at times. You can get a RuCap from my friend over at Fish of the Day or you can watch the full episode, again of course, here.

I know that this post seems to be more serious than my other ones and it’s meant to be. As much as I love to be a bitch, I know where the line is. With this big epidemic of children being bullied in our country, I didn’t want to add to that hate and negativity. I didn’t want it to seem that I was glorify bullying. To reiterate, there is nothing wrong with being opinionated or being able to read another queen. Its just you know when something is being done out of fun where everyone is involved or when something is malicious. So the next time you wanna read someone, take a second and think about where the initial source of the read is coming from.

Testing? 1. 2. 3.

tumblr_m2fjjify2Q1qmuo60o1_500

It’s Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday. Haa, just kidding, eff that bitch Rebecca Black, too harsh? O-ver it.

Ahh, some more music from my favorite queens! I was debating about what song to choose for this week, it was a toss up between a classic form the Ru vault or something from one of her gurrrrls. I haven’t really made up my mind yet. Eh, let’s go with one of Ru’s off springs, cause let’s face it, that media whore Ru has enough press already. All T, All shade gurrl.

This ORIGIONAL song is preformed by Manila Luzon, season 3’s runner-up, its a fun, danc-y, classic pop song.

It has a catchy hook and chorus that gets stuck in your head whenever you least expect it. I tend to find myself every now and then humming it in my car or walking to class just repeating the chorus over and over again, “Hot Couture Ah-oh-oh-oh-oh-or-or-or/Serving Hot Couture.”

Sidebar: Manila was robbed in season 3, trust me you don’t want me to started on how Raja stole the crown from my fellow Asian sista. Raja, pictured below, is a fierce queen, don’t get me wrong, she deserved to be in the top 3, but to take the whole crown that’s a whole other story. Yes she’s fierce and knows how to stomp it out on the runway but. I want more for the future of drag, the look is an important thing of being a drag queen but it isn’t the only factor. You need to have wit, charm, a semi-functioning heart, and the ‘I don’t give a fuck’ attitude. I believe, know, and will preach it, that Manila out qualifies Raja in over half of these requirements. Have Ru and Raja been friends prior to the show for ten plus years? Yes. Do I think that season 3 was rigged? Yes. I don’t place the dots, hun-tee; I just see and connect them, oh snap.

theincantation.tumblr

Well sorry for that rant, any who, I hope you guys enjoy the song, it isn’t as funny as the other two I posted but I feel that this is a more realistic single for someone who’s trying to make it in the pop music industry. Not saying that you don’t Ru, don’t get it twisted

RuCap: Episode 8: Scent of a Drag Queen

I’m back, YAYYY! Ok, get over it and let’s get down to business: Episode 8 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. With Last week non-elimination, we are still with the top 7 girls. Roxxxy Andrews and Alisa Edwards were given another chance to prove themselves after failing to impress during the RuPaul Roast. This episode was entitled ‘Scent of a Drag Queen’ where in the main challenge the girls had to write, produce, and direct their own fragrance commercial for perfumes that they made. But before all that fun and some hot messes, sorry Ivy Winters, RuPaul had a jaw dropping mini-challenge memory game, probably one of Ru’s best ideas ever. The game was called “Whatcha Packin” Where the girls had to match up pairs of underwear worn by some fine ass guys, I could go on and on about how delicious and ‘Emmy Worthy’ this mini-challenge was but I think I’m gonna let my home gurrrl, BigGalReviews off of youtube, talk about it and its wonderfulness: (Fast-forward to 4:45, to get to the juicy details)

Here’s a little sneak peak of what we’ve been going gaga over, curiosity of Logotv.com and lipsyncforyourlife.tumblr.com: Whatcha Packin

Now gurrls, pick up those jaws off of the ground and focus. I’m not sure if I’d wanna win this mini challenge, if I were in those gurrl’s shoes, I’d keep on getting it wrong and watch the boys drop trou, over and over and over and over again, until I was satisfied, haaa. Those gurls have been locked up for each other for eight weeks and I know that they’ve been buggin’ for some men, or let’s just face it, a nice fuck, haa.

After all that hotness was through, I know I was thirsty for a big tall glass of…water, with a side of cock of course. Haa. With this main challenge, some of the girls hit this challenge out of the water: Alask, Jinkx, and Detox. While some of the pageant girls struggled (no surprise here) Alyssa and Coco. Here’s the best commercial of the night and the challenge winner Alsaka:

I feel that some of these girls take some of the challenges too seriously, for one you’re a man in a dress, ham it up, have some fun. Alaska might of known 100% what she was doing but boy did the bitch deliver.

But there was one queen that seemed to have more trouble than others, Ivy Winters. Ivy is a great and beautiful queen but when it comes to her personality she seems to fall flat. I don’t know if she is a bitchy queen, a fashionista, or something in between. Ivy is just a nice girl who’s time on the show was unfortunately up. She didn’t bring any added drama nor did she want to. Ivy was a pretty zen queen and she was nice, unfortunately nobody has time for that shit. We were halfway through the competition and dull queens just have to go. Nobody wants to see all the girls get a long and help each other until Ru crowns one of them as the winner. We wanna see shade being thrown, girls getting called out, and please, oh gay Gods please, a girl get hit in the face with a glass full of vodka. Don’t get me wrong, I would have loved to see the ‘orange orangutan’ CoCo go home but the producers aren’t idiots they are gonna milk out the drama between her and Alyssa out until they have to lip-sync against each other. So unfortunately for the very pretty and nice Ivy Winters to Sashay away. The one thing that I’m gonna miss about Ivy is the way that Ru says her name in every episode, it was one of the highlights of the season. Gotta love that bitch Ru, “Ivvyyyyyy Wiiiinterrrrrsssss”

Tagged , , , ,

Now that you know what happened, can we talk about that lip sync between Roxxxy and Alyssa? SICKENING HUN-TEE! When Roxxy took of her wig and revealed…her other wig, I died. I was gagging every second of the performance. But that didn’t stop Alyssa from doing her own thang too. Dropping to the floor and swiffering the stage with her tuck, haaa. I dare you to disagree, I mean check it out for yourself biiiitch.
And the icing on the cake were Ru and Michelle’s reactions.

They. were. priceless. Can I get an Amen?

Once again Ru Steals the show.
